In Brief

We visit Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. We also spend a few days in Tanzania’s largest and the world famous wildlife park—Serengeti National Park. This safari includes a day at the surreal soda Lake Natron. This lake is the only breeding area for 2.5 million lesser flamingos that live in the valley because its caustic environment is a barrier against predators trying to reach their nests. Walks around the lake, streams, and waterfalls along the nearby escarpment make a fantastic adventures off the beaten track.

Itinerary

Day 1: MOSHI/ARUSHA TO LAKE MANYARA

You will depart from your accommodation in Moshi/Arusha at 6am and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park. Although small in size, this park is one of the most diverse reserves in the country. Lake Manyara covers two-thirds of the park. At the backdrop is the wall of the Great Rift Valley, before which lies the groundwater forest, areas of open grassland near the lake foreshore, and the Soda Lake.

We enjoy a picnic lunch in this area, which consists of open grassy areas, hot springs, dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Lake Manyara National Park is a birding paradise that has more than 350 species of bird. The park is also famed for its unique and elusive tree-climbing lions.

Day 2: LAKE MANYARA TO LAKE NATRON

After breakfast, drive to Lake Natron has a number of activities that are very easily combined with walks in the middle of the day there is the nearby Ngare Sero gorge that you can walk to options of long hikes to the source or shorter hikes to waterfalls. The staffs are on hand to make you stay as adventurous or relaxing as you want. Late afternoon you will drive to overnight at Lake Natron

Day 3: LAKE NATRON TO SERENGETI

The drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge takes 3 to 4 hours. Olduvai Gorge is an archaeological site located in the eastern Serengeti plains, in which early human fossils were first discovered. It has an amazing landscape that resulted from the same tectonic forces that created the Great Rift Valley millions of years ago. Then in the late evening, drive to and overnight at the Serengeti .

Day 4: FULL DAY SERENGETI

After breakfast, venture into the Serengeti’s wilderness corners for a full day of game viewing in the park. With a picnic lunch beside you, if you prefer some physical activity, you can also drive to the Ikoma Area and a nice walking tour along Grumeti River. In the late evening, return to the  accomodation place for rest, dinner, and overnight.

Day 5: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CRATER AREA

After breakfast we begin the long journey to back through the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Crater. You will still enjoy several hours of game viewing as you head back across the plains. We arrive at your accomodation in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: NGORONGORO CRATER FULL DAY GAME DRIVE

Today we visit the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5’ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. Later afternoon drive to accommodation place for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: Tarangire to Arusha /Moshi

After breakfast, we depart from your lodge and continue the Tarangire game drive. We visit Tarangire National Tarangire is known for its vast herds of elephants. It is estimated that there are over 2,500 elephants in the park. The park surrounds the perennial Tarangire River. More than 500 species of birds, wildebeest, buffalo, waterbuck, giraffe and zebra find shelter along the banks of the river. Though hard to find, the cheetah and leopard, as well as the hyena stalk their prey along these same banks. We enjoy an outdoor lunch overlooking the bluff and viewing Tarangire plains.
